We Should Know Better

Every day there is a teaching moment with my kids! 

Running errands with the little guys we pass a nurse standing outside smoking.  Let's just say the boys were astonished!  They had a discussion about how she of all people should know better.  She's a nurse she must know what smoking will do to her body!  Why would she do that?

Letting them discuss it a moment I finally said, "You are right she should know better!  It's sad, isn't it?" 

"You know she isn't much different from us."

What do you mean?  We don't smoke!

"You are right, we don't smoke, but we are Christians and we should know better than to sin."

• we should know better than to lie
• we should know better than to cheat
• we should know better than to yell at our brother
• we should know better than to not clean our rooms when mom and dad have asked us
• we should know better than to ignore mom about doing schoolwork when she has asked
• we should know better than to be unkind to our sister
• we should know better than to judge

We should know better!  Challenged to look at what I should know better about and thankful God brought opportunity for me and the boys to think differently than to judge someone else!
