The Toddler Knows

I sit here in amazement as I watch my 20 month old at work. I can't tell you how many days I feel I have NOT trained my family well. We have 3 meals a day for the past 19 years and still there are dishes left out in the kitchen. (We won't talk about the cabinet doors left open, the trash on the floor, or the cups sprawled everywhere!) How is it that a college student, the teens, a husband and various other children have no idea how to load the dishwasher, and yet, the 20 month old finishes his food and loads his stuff! (Of course, the dishes were already clean but I let him do it anyways, I was so pleased!)

How many times have we come to watch a show and nobody can find the remote control to the T.V. (Or as my children say, "the channel changer") Yet, I watch a 20 month old finish his Veggie Tale video and gather the remotes and put them in a drawer.

What about all those times of encouraging my children to put their dirty clothes IN the hamper. Yes, this too my 20 month old gets, when you change your clothes they go into the hamper. He very proudly gathers his things (no matter how many trips as he drops one after the other) and drops them in like a real person should.

Now I wonder at what age does all this wonderful knowledge he has change?

Until he hits that age I will watch with great JOY as THIS child does as mom asks!
