A Moment to Prepare - College Ready

Do you have kids fixing to graduate and head off to college?

Did you feel YOU were prepared when you stepped out of the home?

If you do not have a college student yet, don't stop reading! Even if you don't have kids at this stage you can still invest in others by sharing a resource that might help them with the stage of life they are at...by passing this on!

Wouldn't it be great to have one more opportunity to talk and share wisdom with your college student before you launch them out of the home?

Do you know the average parent feels their job is to GET their kids into college? BUT have we prepared them what to do once they are there?

So many times we think our kids will talk to us when they have a question. BUT...if they don't know what they don't know, how can they ask questions! I remember after having our first baby they kept asking me if I had any questions. Uh, YES! And yet, I couldn't even ask one question because 'I didn't know what I didn't know!'.

I am thankful that Robert Lewis had a vision and has helped put a tool together for family and churches to walk with our young adults and guide them through thinking, preparing and connecting the dots of the next stage in life for our college kids. They have identified 6 core issues that parents/mentors need to be discussing prior to them heading off to college.
  • Begins with helping them have a vision for their college years. (So they graduate knowing where they are headed vs graduating and STILL trying to decide what they will do!)
  • Friendships
  • Dating
  • Academics
  • Having fun...the right kind of fun!
  • Growing spiritually and making their faith their own!
Below are links to the radio broadcast from Family Life on College Ready.
Listen to Day 1 and then get a little grasp at what a great tool this can be for churches, schools or even our homes!
Here is one parents response to the Life Ready Series, College Ready.

"The College Ready series my son, Taylor, went through
was extremely rewarding. The most awesome part of the study was at the end of
the course hearing my son tell us his goals— how he was going to live his life,
what principals he was going to live, what type of young lady he wanted to date
and how he would treat her and respect her—just really filled my heart up with
joy. It has been over 4 1/2 years since he went through this course and now is a
college grad and a very responsible man that is just awesome to see. College
Ready was a huge help in making that happen."
